I Love to Read
I love to read month has come to a close, but like I said before, we continue to love reading all year long! We did lots of fun activities during I Love to Read Month! Some of our favorites were pajama day, hat day, mixed up day, stick to a good book when we got chew gum and cozy up with a good book Congratulations to Gavyn who won the bookmark design contest for the school.

Weather Instrument Project
The students are working on designing their own weather instrument using the design process. They will need to bring in their materials by Tuesday. They have already gone through the planning stages and wrote down the materials needed in their agendas. They will begin building their projects on Tuesday so all materials will need to be at school that day. Most students have chosen to build barometers, thermometers, wind vanes and anemometers! We are looking forward to building and testing our weather instruments and seeing how we can make improvements to them. Stay tuned for more!

The Nifty Nines!
We are giving our multiplication facts a little extra attention. We learned a little trick for the nines and found a couple of neat patterns. Ask your child to explain it to you!

Thank You!
A big thank you to all the students who participated and helped out on Friday at our Rick Hansen Day. The day was about being a difference maker and our students did an excellent job of doing just that. In the morning when they were participating, they were helping each other out and were very positive. In the afternoon, they were responsible for running the stations and helping the younger students. Everyone was very well behaved and helpful. Thank you for such a wonderful day and for making a difference!

Rick Hansen Relay
On Friday January 27, we will be participating in winter activities, planned by Mrs. May, for the Rick Hansen Relay. The relay is organized by the Rick Hansen Foundation to celebrate difference makers in our communities. Our students will be participating in two winter events that they have chosen in the morning. Please dress appropriately as we will be outside for the majority of the day.
We will be staying at the rink for lunch so please pack a lunch that can be eaten at the rink. We will be setting up and working the stations for the K-4 students in the afternoon. At 2:50 we will be back at the school and outside to see the relay go past and cheer everyone on. The End of Day celebration will be from 3:00 till 3:30 and students will not have a chance to attend this celebration unless brought by their parents.
Everyone is welcome to attend free public skating after the presentation! Please come out and help us celebrate our community!

Whitemud Watershed Visit
On Monday Jan.16 we had a special guest come speak to all of the grade 5 & 6 students. Chris from the Whitemud Watershed came to speak to us about our green space. He went through the different kinds of plants and trees that would grow well in our soil and then we went for a walk around the school grounds to decide on potential locations. All of the students drew up designs for what they think the green space should look like and what supplies would be needed. We are going to look at all the designs and decide on one, or use a combination of the ideas the students came up with to create one design. Once we have decided on an outline we will have Chris come back and help us with the next step in our plan. We are very excited to see the plans for our green space progress!
