Green Space Planning

As spring is fast approaching our plans for the greenspace are coming along well. We have staked out the space and have purchased a composter. Chris from Whitemud watershed has ordered some start up trees and shrubs for us to start with and some of these include; large aspen, spruce, crabapple, lilacs and dogwoods. Thanks to the Whitemud Watershed for donating all these trees and their time. Thank you to the MES PAC for their donation which went toward purchasing a large composter and several smaller composting pails for the classrooms. Lewis and Sons Ltd, an apiary from Austin, generously donated 20 bird houses to be put up in the school yard and greenspace. We would like to thank the Austin and Area Wildlife for their generous donation of $ 200 towards a bench for our greenspace as well, without the generous support of our community we would not have the necessary supports to be successful with our planning.

If anyone would like to donate their time or equipment to our project please don't hesitate to call the school and let us know what you can contribute.

Our Seedlings

We planted these white spruce trees before spring break. Some of them have sprouted! They are sitting in front of the window in the library hoping to get some more light!

We Are Idle Free!

We have some new idle free signs in front of our school! We are doing our best to help our environment.

Reminders

Just a reminder that the weather test is tomorrow. Students have been given a review of what is on the test. They were also sent home today with a list of questions and the answers to help them study.

There are still some students that need to return their permission form for the "Team up to Clean Up" trip to Winnipeg. This is not our field trip. This trip is to enrich our understanding of recycling and being more environmentally friendly and will hopefully support us in the building of our green space.

There are still some students who have to type on our student blog. They should be adding their weather forecast this week. We did not do a journal this week so that we could catch up on some of our other writing pieces including a personal narrative, diary of New France, newscast and a weather foreceast. They should have 4 pieces of writing on their blog now.

We have a lot of finish up work to do this week. We are trying to finish off our science and social studies units so that Ms. Mauthe may start fresh on a new unit after spring break.

Friday afternoon at 1:00 the teachers will be playing the grade 8's in their annual hockey game. If you would like to come out and cheer you're more than welcome!

Journal #26

Write a personal narrative from the perspective of a character in a book you have recently read. Using the same outcomes we had for last weeks personal narrative, students will write from a main character's point of view from a book they have read. They need to go back and edit their rough copy in another color and they type a good copy on their student blog. Please make sure to reread it and check for mistakes.

Portfolio Party

Next Monday March 12 and Wednesday March 14 we will be having our portfolio parties from 5:30 - 8:00pm. Please send a note in your child's agenda as to which night you will be attending. It will be the same format as our last portfolio party but this time the students will be showing you their digital portfolio.

Students brought home a Shape and Space Quiz last week. They are supposed to show it to you, have you sign it and return it. Thank you.

Journal 25

Journal 25 is a Personal Narrative about New France.
Students are to write a 3 day diary entry (at least) about moving to New France. Explain what it is like and how you feel about it. Students have a personal narrative checklist to follow in order to complete the journal entry.
